Two killed in road accident

KANCHEEPURAM: Two persons were killed and 13 others injured in a road accident involving two buses on the Grand Southern Trunk Road in Janakipuram near Madurantakam in the early hours of Saturday.

According to the police, the accident took place around 3-45 a.m. when a State Transport Corporation bus bound for Chennai from Tiruvannamalai attempted to overtake another STC bus proceeding to Chennai from Thittakudi. The Chennai-Tiruvannamalai bus rammed the other and in the impact, the front portion on its left side was ripped off.

While, Ezhumalai, conductor of Tiruvannamalai-Chennai bus died on the spot, a passenger, Rajeshwari, was taken to Chengalpattu Medical College Hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Eight persons, including three women who were on Thittakudi-Chennai bus and five commuters, including three women on the other, were injured and rushed to the hospital, the police said.
