He was caught while allegedly accepting Rs. 50,000 A consultant had complained to Lokayukta BANGALORE: The Lokayutka police on Saturday trapped the Commissioner of Karnataka Slum Clearance Board V. Ashok while he was allegedly accepting bribe of Rs. 50,000 for clearing the bill of a consultant. Mr. Ashok, a KAS officer, allegedly demanded Rs. 1 lakh from Ravindra to clear a bill for Rs. 40 lakh. The bill related to a housing project of the board and was pending for a long time. Mr. Ashok asked Mr. Ravindra to pay an advance of Rs. 50,000. Not willing to pay the sum, Mr. Ravindra filed a complaint with the Lokayukta police on Wednesday. The Lokayukta team, headed by Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar, the newly appointed Superintendent of Police for Bangalore city, laid a trap on Saturday. The team accompanied Mr. Ravindra to Mr. Ashok’s office in Seshadripuram. Mr. Ashok was caught red-handed while he was allegedly accepting Rs. 50,000 from Mr. Ravindra. Additional Director-General of Police (Lokayukta) Rupak Kumar Dutta, who supervised the operation, said apart from the bribe, they recovered Rs. 24,000 from the official. Mr. Ashok joined KAS in 1984 and has been serving as commissioner of the board for a long time.
