KOCHI: Curtains came down on the 45th Maritime Day celebrations in Kochi with a public meeting at the Merchant Navy Club on Saturday in which Vice-Admiral Sunil K. Damle, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Naval Command was the chief guest. N. Ramachandran, chairman of Cochin Port Trust and M. Jitendran, chairman of Cochin Shipyard Limited offered felicitations. Saturday’s meeting was the culmination of celebrations that began on March 30 with a Mass Run that was flagged off at the High Court Junction in the city. Mr. Ramachandran said that quality of training of the seafarers should be ensured so that the reputation India has earned for meeting manpower needs in the sector is kept up. Cmde. Jitendran said that there was no field which was so international as the shipping business.
