Painting contest held to promote reading of holy books

Epic effort!: Sriprakash Vidyaniketan students painting scenes from Ramayana in Visakhapatnam on Saturday
VISAKHAPATNAM: Creativity of students of Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan came to the fore at a drawing and painting competition organised by the school on Saturday.
The budding artists took portrayed scenes from the great epic Ramayana right. Nearly 50 students participated in the competition, which was intended to promote reading of holy books like the Ramayana and sustain Hindu culture besides preventing them from falling a prey to Western culture. The paintings were displayed at the Seethammadhara North Extension campus of the school. Former Head of the Fine Arts Department of Andhra University M. Adinarayana judged the works. Principal of Ramnath Secondary School C.V. Narasimham gave away the prizes.
A. Anand (Std.IV), P. Rohit (Std. IX) won the first and second prize for ‘Lankadahanam’ and ‘Sita apaharana’ respectively. The exhibition will be kept open to the public for a week.
