KASSIA reiterates its demand for representation

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: The Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) has reiterated its demand that the State Government give representation to it on the board of directors of the Karnataka State Finance Corporation, Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board and the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.

Participating in a workshop on industrial development in Mandya district, KASSIA president M.C.R. Shetty said the representation to KASSIA in State Government agencies would help in safeguarding the interests of the small industries and in the formulation of policies. This request has been pending with the government for a long time.

Mr. Shetty said that the single-window agency was not effectively functioning in several districts.

Meetings of the agency should be held on a regular basis and its recommendations should be implemented. A thorough overhaul of the organisation was needed, he added. The industries, he said, were facing problems in transferring power connections when they shift their factories. Trade licences should be issued without any hassle and the fees should not be too high, he added.

Mr. Shetty said that associations have been formed for different industries and the government should interact with them for solving their problems. Some associations have come forward to set up industrial estates to mitigate the shortage of industrial sites and they should be encouraged, he said.

Additional Director of Commerce and Industries A. Ramakrishan, Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry president S.S. Patil and industrialist Tallam Venkatesh spoke.
