Warm welcome: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Dharmapuri Srinivas taken in a huge procession on his arrival in Nizamabad on Saturday.

NIZAMABAD: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Dharmapuri Srinivas has expressed confidence that his party will romp home in the State by winning more than 200 seats in the Legislative Assembly in the coming elections.

“Ours (self and Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy) is a winning combination. We led the party to the power in 2004 by taking all party workers and leaders together. Similarly, in the next general elections too we will rope in all leaders and workers and successfully guide them in the electoral battle,” he said.

Gathering

Mr. Srinivas, on his arrival to his hometown after being appointed as the APCC president for the second time, was addressing a mammoth gathering on the District Sports Authority grounds this evening.

He was felicitated in a grand manner by the party workers and leaders on behalf of the District Congress Committee.

On his way to the district headquarter town from Hyderabad, earlier in the day, the party workers welcomed him at several junctions, towns and villages. He entered the town after offering poojas at Sai Baba Mandir, Madhavanagar, on the outskirts of the town. Mounted on motorcycles a large number of youth piloted his convoy.

In the town it took him three hours to reach the venue as the party workers and people vied with each other to welcome him. The AICC secretary Iqbal Singh, Minister for Information Technology R. Damodar Reddy, Minister for Power Mohammad Ali Shabbir and Member of Parliament Madhu Goud Yaskhi accompanied him.

Felicitation

Among those who attended the felicitation meeting included Mayor D. Sanjay, MLAs Bajireddy Govardhan, P. Sudarshan Reddy, S. Gangaram and Nadendla Manohar, MLCs R. Venkatrami Reddy, D. Rajeswar and B. Mohan Reddy and ZP Vice-Chairman Taher Bin Hamdan. The DCC president G. Gangadhar presided.

Rare honour

Thanking Mrs. Sonia Gandhi for reposing confidence in him, Mr. Srinivas said giving the opportunity as the PCC chief for the second time in four years was not a simple thing.

It was a rare honour to him, he said added that he would be indebted to people of Nizamabad forever for their blessings on him.
