Vacation classes galore

Vacation classes are so many these days that parents and children are spoilt for choice. Even some of the community organisations and social charitable trusts are into conducting these classes. Like the Sai Samanvaya, an institute of value education, that will be conducting free coaching classes on Accounting. The one-and-a-half month course the institute will be conducting at the Absolute Academy at Alinchuvadu, near Palarivattom, will begin from Monday.

The course is mainly aimed to benefit those who have no knowledge of accounting methods and procedures. The syllabus covers various subjects like journal, ledger, daybook, trial balance, financial statements etc. The course will help provide an orientation to accounting, that is of utmost demand in any organisation. Faculty includes N.R. Menon, P.B. Sirajuddin and Rajesh Vennala. Those interested may contact the institute on phone 9847274535.

Yet another vacation class is by the NSS Poonithura and Stree Sakthi Vanitha Samajam from April 11. Here the idea is to provide an activity that children do not get during their academic session in schools. The three-day class at Karayogam Hall, Poonithura, will be held in two sessions from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Children will be grouped in three batches of age group 5-9 years, 10-12 years and 13-17 years.

The small children’s sessions will be full of stories, songs and poetry — introducing them to some traditional folk songs along story telling sessions etc.

The second batch of children will have story and poetry sessions coupled with interactive session with television artistes. The adolescent group will have personality development and theatre sessions coupled with interactive session with television artistes. According to the programme coordinator, who can be contacted at 9495157335, the classes are open to children from other Karayogams.

Something different from these camps are the ones at Cordon Bleu, near Kacheripady, that started last week and will run through the month. Here it is not just painting or vegetable carving or tattoo making, but also cooking. Yes, according to the course conductor, Shenaz Merchant, who can be contacted at 9388609220, 0484-2392650, it enhances the muscle motor functions and cognitive skills. Quoting a newspaper article in the U.S., she says that different age group of children can be asked to do various functions in the kitchen.

Two-year-old children can wash vegetables, shuck corn etc., three-year olds can be asked to spread butter with a plastic knife or mix soft batter; four-five year olds can beat eggs and can be taught the use of measuring cups; six-ten year olds can be taught to crack eggs, decorate cakes etc. To help your child add glamour to the simplest of fare, they would be introduced to the art of table setting, napkin folding, basics of restaurant, dining, party and telephone etiquette.

The aim is to develop a child’s over-all personality. The fee includes cost of all materials. These are just a few of the many vacation classes that are being conducted in the city.
