CHENNAI: A sum of Rs.4.98 crore has been sanctioned for constructing court buildings and residential accommodation for judges and other judicial officers in the State. The Union Government has been releasing funds to the States for constructing court buildings and residential quarters, on the condition that the States chip in with a matching share. The Centre has sanctioned Rs.2.48 crore for 2007-08. The Tamil Nadu Government will release a matching share of Rs.2.50 crore, says a Government Order. Of the sum, Rs.4.73 crore has been allocated for constructing the combined court buildings and quarters for judicial officers at Alandur. While Rs.12.75 lakh has been earmarked for construction of the post-attached quarters for judicial magistrate at Palani in Dindigul district, Rs.13 lakh has been set aside for building a similar facility for the sub-judge at Padmanabhapuram in Kanyakumari district.
