Officials told to enforce model code of conduct strictly in Bidar district

Photo ID cards made compulsory for voters

Hobli-level official to monitor political parties

BIDAR: Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta on Sunday said that a campaign would be launched in the district from April 10 to issue photo identity cards to voters.

Speaking at a meeting of officials here on preparations for the smooth conduct of elections in the district, he urged the voters to get photo identity cards when officials visited their villages. Photo identity cards had been made compulsory for the elections.

Mr. Gupta said that the model code of conduct was in force in the district and election officials should keep a vigil on political parties and leaders. To ensure that all political parties adhered to the code of conduct, a hobli-level official would be appointed. He would be assisted by a sub-inspector, the Deputy Commissioner said.

Mr. Gupta asked political parties to seek permission to put up publicity material in public places.

Publicity material should be kept away from religious institutions and government offices, he said.

Campaign material made of plastic would not be allowed, he said.

He directed the officials of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company to form teams to remove banners, cut-outs and other publicity material.

He told the officials to ensure proper roads to polling stations.

Officials should also keep a watch on smuggling of liquor into the district.

Superintendent of Police A. Subramanyeswara Rao and Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer J.C. Prakash attended the meeting.
