KOCHI: A continuing medical education programme of the 30th All-Kerala Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology concluded here on Sunday. A quiz on gynaecology for postgraduate students was the highlight of the concluding day’s programmes. The congress was inaugurated by Kurien Joseph, judge of the Kerala High Court, on Friday. Mr. Joseph said nearly 43 million induced abortions took place worldwide. He called upon gynaecologists to consider that unborn children became victims of induced abortions as they did not have any advocate. He dwelt on the changing patient-doctor relationship over the years. Earlier, doctors depended on their skills but now, they were more dependant on machines, he said. Prior to the congress, a workshop on gynaecological procedures and surgeries was held at Sunrise Hospital. Video presentations, lectures and live surgeries were held. Workshops were held on colposcopy, a procedure to analyse the abnormal growth shown in a papsmear test, by Remani Wesley and team from Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram and Copper T Revisited by Rajasekharan Nair and team from Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. A live workshop on vaginal surgeries and gynaec endoscopic surgeries by Prof. Paily and Prakash Trivedi from Mumbai, Hafeez Rehman and P.G. Paul from Kochi and Greg Carlo from Sydney was also held. Nearly 600 gynaecologists and obstetricians attended the three-day congress.
