Durgapur: A woman teacher was stabbed allegedly by a colleague here for spurning his advances, police said on Sunday. Mathematics teacher of Hem Sheela Model School Ashis Swarnakar (30) attacked science teacher Chitra Mukherjee with a dagger when they were coming out of the staff room after attending a school meeting yesterday. Swarnakar, who then probably tried to kill himself, was found in an unconscious state in the school toilet, police said. He was admitted to a local hospital. The 24-year-old teacher, who sustained head and shoulder injuries, was rushed to a nursing home from where she was being shifted to a Kolkata hospital today, police said. The police suspect that the teacher was attacked after she repeatedly rebuffed his advances. While Swarnakar was employed in the school for the last eight years, Mukherjee had joined the school in 2006. Later the school rector Soumen Chakrabarty lodged a diary with the police. SP Pijush Pandey said police guards were posted outside the hospital cabin, where Swarnakar was being treated. -- PTI
