Armed police, Sundargarh residents clash

Rourkela: A clash between armed police reserve (APR) jawans and local people at Orissa’s Sundargarh town sparked tension in the area. The clash followed an alleged attack on two APR constables by criminals over payment to a roadside vendor selling eatables at the bus stand area of the district headquarter town last night, police said. The criminals instead of paying the vendor after buying eatables from him had beaten him up and the two jawans, who were purchasing goods nearby, intervened to settle the matter. The criminals allegedly assaulted them.

Enraged over the incident, about 20 APR constables came to the bus stand area and enquired about the two criminals who had attacked the jawans. Dissatisfied with the shop owners’ replies, the APR jawans allegedly thrashed them and some of the local people. -PTI
