Jalandhar: Police on Sunday cane-charged the agitated teachers, who gheraoed the Local Bodies minister Manoranjan Kalia. They were protesting against the non-compliance of their demand of their regularisation and marched towards the venue where the minister was attending a function. Mr. Kalia was kept hostage for a few minutes and police had to cane-charge to disburse the protestors. After senior police officials persuaded the protestors to send a five member delegation to the minister’s house for talks, they dispersed.
