says Mallikarjun Kharge

Bangalore: As many as 2,800 applications have been received by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) from party leaders and workers seeking ticket to contest the Assembly elections, scheduled on May 10, 16 and 22.

KPCC president M. Mallikarjun Kharge said that 2,316 applications had been received from the district Congress committees, barring Belgaum and Uttara Kannada districts, and the figure might touch 2,700.

Many leaders had submitted their applications directly at the Bangalore office, he added.

The Election Management and Coordination Committee will meet on April 9 to scrutinise the applications and select candidates for the first phase of elections to be held on May 10 in the southern districts.
