Rajasekharan may quit Ministry today

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: The Union Minister of State for Planning and senior Congress leader M.V. Rajasekharan, whose Rajya Sabha term ends on April 9, is likely to tender his resignation to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday.

Speaking to The Hindu, the Minister said he was going to New Delhi to hand over the key of his official residence to the authorities, as he did not want to stay in that building after his term was over.

Suggestions

Mr. Rajasekharan, son-in-law of the former Chief Minister, the late S. Nijalingappa, attended the meeting of the Election Manifesto Committee of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, chaired by the senior leader and former Railway Minister C.K. Jaffer Sharief, and made suggestions for drafting the document.

Futile bid

The Congress leader, who made a futile bid to become Chief Minister after the collapse of the B.S. Yeddyurappa government, thanks to his close ties with the former Prime Minister and president of the Janata Dal (Secular) H.D. Deve Gowda, said he had not decided what to do after returning to the State.
