Belgaum: The Deputy Director of Public Instruction, T.B. Jayakumar, has directed the authorities of all the schools to put up on notice board details such as the number of seats available in each standard in their school. In a press release issued here on Saturday, he said that according to the Karnataka Education Act, 1983, all the educational institutions must declare to the public the number of seats available before starting the admission process. No institution should collect more than Rs. 10 for application form, he said. The application forms should be sold at least for five days and at least three days’ time should be given for withdrawal of application after the last date of submission, he said. The school administration should mark the date of receipt of application and follow reservation norms for providing admission to students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and girls. Selection listTwo copies of the notification announced should be submitted to the field officer concerned in the Education Department. After announcing the list of selected candidates, at least five days’ time should be given to parents/students to file objections, if any, which should be duly examined and replied to the applicants before announcing the final list of selected candidates, he said. Mr. Jayakumar said the Government had directed the schools not to hold any entrance test, counselling or interview for students or their parents/guardians. This direction should strictly be abided, he added. Also, the school authorities must declare the details of fees collected on the notice board. The practice of frequently changing uniforms should be given up and no school should impose parents or students to buy uniforms from a particular shop, he said. Only those textbooks prescribed by the Government should be used for teaching in schools.
