SHIMLA: Miffed at frequent buzz of cell phones during the Assembly session, Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Tulsi Ram has sought the installation of a new phone jammer to carry on the proceedings of the House without disturbance. “I have ordered installation of a new jammer on rent for the remaining five days of the session,” Ram told PTI on Sunday. The existing jammer, he said, had become ineffective. The Speaker also said that he has ordered a new jammer for the next session. On the directions of the Speaker, Secretary, Vidhan Sabha Govardhan Singh has written a letter to Electronic Corporation of Himachal Pradesh, a state government undertaking, that supplied the jammer last time. The Corporation is asking for a security of Rs 45,000 and a monthly rent of Rs 5000 for installing a new jammer on rent, he said adding that he has requested the corporation to waive off the security money and take Rs 5000 rent for the next five days of the Vidhan Sabha ending on April 11. The Corporation official has assured him that his request will be looked into promptly. He said the existing jammer installed three years back has been declared technically ineffective and its repair was not possible. Annoyed by frequent ringing of mobile phones of MLAs while the session was on, the Speaker had on Friday last repeatedly appealed to the members to switch off their mobiles so that the proceedings could continue smoothly. He had also requested members to be more sincere in switching off their mobiles in the House. - PTI
