CPI(ML) Janashakti leader arrested

KARIMNAGAR: CPI(ML) Janashakti Central committee member, Kura Devender alias Amar (44), who participated in the peace talks with the government, was arrested by the Karimnagar police in Pune, in the early hours of Sunday.

Superintendent of Police Y. Gangadhar told The Hindu that Devender, a native of Shatrajpalli village of Vemulawada mandal, went underground in the year 1983. Before going underground, he actively participated in PDSU activities and between 1985 and 1993, worked as Janashakti zonal committee secretary of Karimnagar and Medak districts. He worked as Karimnagar district secretary from 1994-96 and Telangana secretary from 1997-2001. He functioned as the State committee secretary from 2002-2005 and was currently the party’s central committee member. He completed his schooling in Vemulawada and junior college in Sircilla town and degree in SRR degree college in Karimnagar town. Amar was involved in 13 murders in Karimnagar district and several other cases in various parts of the State. He was instrumental in procuring arms and ammunition for the party and was planning to revive the Janashakti party by resorting to recruitments and violent acts in the district and other places. Incidentally, Devender’s elder brother Kura Rajanna, who worked as Janashakthi central committee secretary, was arrested by Karimnagar district police in Uttar Pradesh in 2006.
