BHOPAL: Forty-five persons joined a unique campaign and pledged to donate their bodies at a special body/organ donation camp organised by the Senior Citizen Forum here on Sunday afternoon. The president of Senior Citizen Forum, S.K. Saraswat told The Hindu that the first such camp was organised here on February 10. Sunday’s camp was the second in the series, he said adding that they plan to organise similar camps in all Madhya Pradesh cities where medical colleges exist. Forty-one persons had come forward to donate their bodies at the first camp, he said stating: “what is encouraging is that entire families are coming forward to donate their bodies.” Their mission is to involve people in socially relevant projects. They have decided to organise body/organ donation camps keeping in view the shortage of body organs for treating patients and the fact that people were cheated by the unscrupulous elements on this count. Mr. Saraswat said that the functioning of eye banks was more or less streamlined but the main challenge confronting them was ensure adequate facilities for the timely collection and proper storage of body organs.
