Record number of cases booked under Operation Wheel Watch

Bangalore: Operation Wheel Watch, a late night operation by the Bangalore City Traffic Police, on Saturday saw a record number of cases being booked against violators of traffic laws as well as those who jeopardised road safety.

The drive that commenced around 10 p.m. in various parts of the city was supervised by over 40 traffic officials, including senior officials, and saw a record 2,906 case being booked against motorists. The police collected a fine of approximately Rs. 2 lakh from offenders.

The vehicles included four-wheelers, lorries, vans, taxis and two-wheelers.

As many as 781 cases of drunken driving and 448 cases of signal jumping were booked.

The police also booked cases against vehicles with dazzling headlights, driving on one-ways, reckless driving and driving without helmet. Many motorists did not furnish proper documents, the police said.

Offenders booked for drunken driving have been advised to appear before the court concerned within three days. The police said that such drives would be intensified.
