This Day That Age
The Lok Sabha on April 5 voted the Community Development Ministry’s demands for grants after hearing the Minister Mr. S.K. Dey’s appraisal of its achievements and failures. Mr. Dey said that the Ministry had been able to enthuse the people and popularise better farming methods. But progress in the field of minor irrigation was slow. There was shortage of workers particularly of women workers. The present method of training personnel for the development blocks was unsatisfactory and there was a “vacuum” of leadership in the villages which was being filled by people who believed in casteism and parochialism.
