dated April 7, 1958: Spectacular display

A record crowd of over 20,000 spectators, unprecedented in the annals of the Air Force Station, Tambaram, watched a spectacular Air Display which climaxed the I.A.F. Silver Jubilee Celebrations at Tambaram, Madras, on April 6. From the early hours, streams of people, young and old, poured briskly into the Air Force camp from various parts of Madras and the villages in the Chingleput District. The security blanket was removed for the first time at the I.A.F. Station to enable a large number of people witness the special programme. Though the crowds exceeded all expectations, the general bandobust was excellent, which bespoke of close advance planning and hard preparatory work. The Governor Mr. Bishnuram Medhi took the Rashtriya salute, when the I.A.F band played the National Anthem, and a guard of honour was presented by I.A.F trainees.
