Ernakulam, Kozhikode triumph

KOCHI: Sub-junior India camper Bibin Selvin and Shibin Thomas helped Ernakulam brush aside Kottayam 43-14 and retain the boys’ title in the 35th State sub-junior basketball championship, which concluded at the Sacred Heart School court, Thevara, on Sunday.

Kozhikode upset traditional powerhouse Kottayam 34-22 to lift the girls’ trophy with the consistent Elizabeth Hillarios and Anjusree doing the bulk of the scoring.

The results: Boys: Final: Ernakulam 43 (Bibin Selvin 12, Shibin Thomas 10) bt Kottayam 14; Third place: Alappuzha 27 (Balu Babu 10) bt Kannur 5; Semifinal: Ernakulam 44 (Bibin Selvin 19) bt Alappuzha 21 (Balu Babu 14).

Girls: Final: Kozhikode 34 (Elizabath Hillarios 8, Anjusree 8) bt Kottayam 22 (Poojamol 12); Third place: Kannur 24 (Anjusha 10) bt Thrissur 8; Semifinal: Kottayam 28 (Poojamol 21) bt Thrirsur 25. — Principal Correspondent
