CHAMARAJANAGAR: The members of the Zilla Kannada Sena Samiti in association with Kannada organisations burnt the effigy of Tamil actor Rajnikanth here on Sunday. They were protesting against his reported remarks against Kannadigas. The samithi president, Srinivas Gowda condemned the remarks and urged the actor to apologise. He called upon Kannadigas to boycott Rajnikanth’s films. The leaders of various Kannada organisations also criticised Tamil actors for their remarks about Kannada actor, the late Dr. Rajkumar. The protesters also criticised Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. Karunanidhi for his statement about suspending the drinking water project at Hogenakkal until the elections in Karnataka are over. They urged Mr. Karunanidhi to stop the work permanently. Kannada activists staged a demonstration in front of the cable television office on Saturday. They urged cable operators not to air Tamil channels. President of the Zilla Kannada Sanghatana Okkuta, S. Murali alleged that the Tamil Nadu police had failed to give protection to Kannadigas in Tamil Nadu.
