To focus more on hill stations: Kodiyeri Ropeway to be constructed in Vagamon Vagamon: Home and Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that single window clearance would be introduced in the tourism sector for timely clearance of projects. Inaugurating a seminar on ‘Adventure Tourism - Challenges and Possibilities’ at Vagamon in Idukki district on Monday, the Minister said that the government would give more focus on developing hill stations that have potential for adventure tourism. “Kerala has achieved a 20 per cent growth in the tourism sector where as the national average is just 11 per cent,” the Minister said. He added that last year, Rs. 11,500 crore was generated from the tourism sector, which marked a 25 per cent growth. He also said that the growth of tourism depended on private participation and development of infrastructure. “Idukki and Wayanad have high potential for adventure tourism and a coordinated effort by the Forest, Irrigation and Tourism departments is the need of the hour,” Mr. Balakrishnan said. The Minister also said that a ropeway would be constructed in Vagamon, which has been identified for holding events like paragliding. The Minister, later, visited the venue of the third international paragliding championship, which began on Monday. Though the wind was unfavourable and only two paragliding pilots demonstrated the sport by flying a short distance, more paragliders joined them by evening.
