BANGALORE: A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Hosagabbadi village of Ramanagaram district on Sunday. According to Harohalli police, the girl was staying with her grandmother. On Saturday, she went to the market to buy neem and mango leaves for the Ugadi festival and did not return. The grandmother and the victim’s mother searched for her for a while before lodging a complaint.

On Sunday, passers-by noticed the body of the girl in a bush near the village lake and informed the police. The Harohalli police said the body had injuries showing signs of resistance and marks of strangulation. The police have registered a case of rape and murder. The body has been sent for autopsy. The police said the girl’s mother was working as a maid in Bangalore.
