FIR against lawyer quashed HIGH COURT ROUND-UP

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Monday quashed an FIR registered against Haridas P. Nair, High Court lawyer, by the police in Palakkad in connection with the escape of an accused from the premises of the Chittoor Magistrate Court.

The incident occurred on April 13, 2007 when the Judicial First Class Magistrate rejected the bail application of the accused in a liquor case. The lawyer was representing the accused before the court.

While quashing the FIR, Justice V. Ramkumar said it was indeed an unfortunate incident which took a different turn following the escape of the accused.

The circumstances and events were such that the magistrate suspected that the petitioner had engineered the escape.

Directive to Ombudsman

A Division Bench on Monday directed the Ombudsman for Travancore and Cochin Devaswom Boards to submit a panel of names for the post of Travancore Devaswom Board commissioner.
