dated April 8, 1958: Pope’s Easter message

The Pope, in his annual Easter message on April 7, called on the nations of the world to show “sincerity in wanting peace, promptness in the complete discharge of all reasonable sacrifices it demands and honesty in discussing its problems.” The 82 year old Pontiff, his voice clear and firm as he spoke from the central balcony high on the giant façade of St. Peter’s Basilica, called on the whole of Christianity to “promote with all its power the solid restoration of a just peace.”
