St. Xavier’s College wins men’s title

Tiruchendur: St. Xavier’s College (Tirunelveli) won the men’s title, while Dr. Sivanthi Adithanar College of Physical Education won the women’s title in the Dr. Sivanthi Adithanar College of Physical Education Alummi Association Trophy State-level inter-collegiate volleyball tournament here on Monday.

The results: Men (Final): St. Xavier’s bt Dr. Sivanthi Adithanar College of Physical Education Alummi Association 25-21, 24-26, 25-22, 25-15. Semifinals: Dr. Sivanthi Adithanar CPEAA bt Adithanar College (Tiruchendur) 25-19, 13-25, 25-21; St. Xavier’s bt Dr. Sivanthi Adithanar CPE 25-22, 23-25, 25-22.

Women (Final): Dr. Sivanthi Adithanar CPE bt Govindammal Adithanar College for Women 25-4, 25-21, 25-18. Semifinals: Dr. Sivanthi Adithanar CPE bt Dr. SA College of Engg. 25-12, 25-9; Govindammal Adithanar College for Women bt Dr. SACPE Alumni Association 25-13, 25-17.

Special awards: Men: Edwin (Dr. SACPE Alumni Association); Women: Priya Anand (Dr. SACPE).

SIT (Kariapatti) in final

Sethu Institute of Technology (Kariapatti) defeated PSNA CE (Dindigul) by 55 runs to enter the final of the K.L.N. Krishnan Memorial Trophy State-level inter-engineering Twenty20 cricket tournament at Pottapalayam on Monday.

The scores (Semifinals): SIT (Kariapatti) 129 for eight in 20 overs (Dayanidhi three for 24) bt PSNA CE (Dindigul) 74 in 18.3 overs (Anwar two for 13, Silambarasan two for nine, Jegan two for seven). Quarterfinals: KLN CE ‘A’ 87 in 18.2 overs (Dayanidhi three for 14) lost to PSNA CE (Dindigul) 90 for four in 13.2 overs (Dayanidhi 55); Sudharsan CE (Pudukottai) 123 for seven in 20 overs (T. Nagajaran 25, V. Rajakumar two for 31, Harsha Deepan two for 27) lost to Thiagarajar CE (Madurai) 126 for six in 19.4 overs (Nagaraj 38, Harsha Deepan 25, Nagarajan two for 29).

Match drawn

Thiagarajar College of Engineering drew with Temple City Football Club 1-1 in the Madurai District Football Association ‘B’ division league for the Hi-Tech Arai Trophy at Madurai on Monday.

Temple City Club went into the lead with a third minute strike by Anbalagan, while Raseen found the equaliser for the College with a 30-yard long range shot in the 56th minute.
