Woman held
CHENNAI: The police on Sunday arrested a woman on the charge of murdering her husband.
Sait, (41) was married to Eswari, (36) and they had three children. They were pavement dwellers at Teynampet.
They often quarrelled, as Sait suspected his wife’s fidelity. Three days ago, when he allegedly threatened to commit suicide and doused himself with kerosene, Eswari set him ablaze. He was rushed to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. In his dying declaration, he said that his wife was the cause for the extreme step. He died in the early hours of Saturday, the police said.
The Mambalam police registered a case and arrested Eswari on Sunday. She was produced before a city court, which remanded her to judicial custody. On a request, the court granted her permission to have her seven-year-old child in her custody in the prison.
