BANGALORE: The official vehicles provided to various elected representatives in Bangalore Urban district will be withdrawn in view of the elections to the Legislative Assembly. Constituencies in Bangalore Urban are going to the polls on May 10. Bangalore Urban District Deputy Commissioner M.A. Sadiq has said that the official vehicles provided to elected representatives in zilla panchayats, taluk panchayats, boards and corporations, and other State undertakings should be withdrawn. To enable free and fair elections, vehicles should not be provided to Union Ministers and other elected members, and these leaders could use their private vehicles for political activities, he added. Besides, he has directed that the rooms at Inspection Bungalows, guesthouses of State undertakings and travel bungalows should not be given to anyone without bringing it to his notice. The direction also stated that press conferences and political party meetings should not be allowed on these premises. The Deputy Commissioner has asked those owning firearms to surrender them before April 11.
