Editors Guild welcomes IPL decision
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The Editors Guild of India has welcomed the decision of the DLF-Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman and commissioner, Lalit Modi, on Monday to relax norms related to media accreditation for the Twenty20 championship starting on April 18 in Bangalore.
In a statement, the Guild welcomed the initiative taken by Mr. Modi on behalf of the Board of Control for Cricket in India to discuss the controversial and unacceptable terms and conditions for media accreditation.
Earlier in the day, the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) had said that it would advise its member publications not to cover the IPL matches if the restrictive terms for accreditation were not withdrawn.
Endorsing the views expressed by the Guild and the SJFI in opposing these terms, the INS said it was ridiculous to suggest that the intellectual property rights on photographs shot by media organisations could be vested in the organisers of the event rather than the media organisations concerned.
