Sutil finishes race despite unlucky start

New Delhi: A 19th place finish is hardly Adrian Sutil’s idea of a perfect race but Force India’s young German driver is finding some solace in the fact that after the twin failure in Melbourne and Sepang, he finally managed to bring home the car in the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Though hailed as one of the future stars of the Formula One circuit, Sutil, who counts Lewis Hamilton among his close friends, is yet to live up to the expectation and his failure to finish the races in Melbourne and Sepang hardly helped his cause.

In the Bahrain Grand Prix too, the lanky youngster seemed destined for yet another DNF (Did Not Finish) after a first corner accident. But to his credit, Sutil put in a measured and consistent drive to secure his first finish of the year.

“It was an unlucky race for us,” said Sutil. “After a good start I had an accident in the first corner and lost my front wing and punctured my left tyre so I had to go into the pits. I managed to get back and change the nose and tyres so at least I could do a race distance,” he said.

Looking back at his show, he said, “The race turned out quite okay without major incidents. The car felt much better but I had some problems with the radio so I came in too early for my second pit stop.”

“The race was a bit messy from that point of view, but at least I could finish and collect some information for the next race,” said the Force India driver. He and the team would now return briefly to its Silverstone base before heading out to Barcelona for a three-day test prior to the Spanish Grand Prix later this month. — PTI
