KARUR: The district administration would provide fund to purchase five thavil instruments for the benefit of Government Music School students here, according to Collector T.N. Venkatesh. Presiding over the tenth anniversary celebrations of the school and the ninth anniversary of the Jawahar Bal Bhavan here recently, Mr. Venkatesh said that the amount would be sanctioned from his discretionary fund. The school authorities were hiring the percussion instrument from outside. With the sanctioning of funds for students, the art form would be taken to more students in the district, Mr. Venkatesh said. Funds would also be sanctioned to carry out repair works for other musical instruments in the school. Pointing out that the administration has already sanctioned land for the Government Music School, Mr. Venkatesh expressed the hope that with the united efforts of every one concerned the school would be able to celebrate its next anniversary in its own building. The Collector also lauded the students of the Government Music School saying that they would be ever willing to participate and provide an auspicious start to government programmes. He called upon art lovers and philanthropists in the district to contribute their mite towards the school’s development. Assistant Director of Art and Culture R. Gunasekaran expressed his gratitude to the district administration for the continued support extended for the cause of Tamil culture and fine arts propagation and the student artistes. Headmistress N. Ramani presented the annual report. Mr. Venkatesh also gave away prizes to winners of competitions and certificates to participating child artistes who performed on stage on the occasion. A Tamil vocal concert by noted Carnatic singer Anuradha Krishnamurthy enthralled the audience.
