Rs. 20,000 is given to buy a milch animal under the scheme

The Government has released Rs. 39 crore to implement the scheme in the 29 districts

The Chamarajanagar unit of the Karnataka Milk Federation has selected 600 beneficiaries

CHAMARAJANAGAR: The benefits of the State Government-implemented Amrutha Yojana for the economic uplift of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe women have not reached the beneficiaries in Chamarajanagar district.

According to sources, under the scheme, Rs. 20,000 is given to beneficiaries to purchase a milch animal.

The scheme facilitates a maximum subsidy of Rs. 15,000 and the remaining amount would be provided in the form of loan by banks.

The district milk union and the departments of Social Welfare, Women and Child Welfare and Animal Husbandry have called for applications from eligible beneficiaries.

The beneficiary should be ready to be a member of a milk cooperative and should not avail subsidies under any scheme from the Government.

The deputy commissioner and the chief executive officer of the zilla panchayat of the respective districts are the president and vice-president respectively of the selection committee.

The deputy directors of the departments of Animal Husbandry, Women and Child Welfare, Social Welfare, District Manager of Backward Class Development Department, officer of NABARD, manager of the Lead Bank and Managing Director of the district milk union will be the members of the committee.

The Government has released Rs. 39 crore to implement the scheme in the 29 districts.

The Karnataka Milk Mahamandala has released Rs. 1.34 crore to implement the scheme.

Funds

Of the funds allocated for the scheme, Rs. 29 crore has been set aside for 29,000 women under general category, Rs. 7.75 crore for 6,458 women under special unit scheme and Rs. 3.25 crore for 2,167 women under tribal sub-plan scheme.

Of the 376 milk producing cooperative unions registered in Chamarajanagar district, 349 are active.

The Government has set a target to cover 1,263 women beneficiaries and has released Rs. 1.26 crore for women under general category, Rs. 35 lakh for 292 beneficiaries under special unit scheme and Rs. 20 lakh for 133 beneficiaries under tribal sub-plan scheme.

The Chamarajanagar district unit of the Karnataka Milk Federation has selected more than 600 beneficiaries. But the departments of Social Welfare, Women and Child Welfare raised objections while finalising the list of beneficiaries at a meeting held recently under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner.

They said that due to shortage of time the district milk union had finalised the list of beneficiaries. But most of the selected beneficiaries had purchased a milch animal and was a member of milk cooperative in their respective villages.

Now the real beneficiaries are complaining that the district milk union has selected beneficiaries who own a cow or buffalo.

They said the subsidy fund of Rs. 10,000 would be misused if the selection committee approved the list.
