Manipal: Manipal University, which has carved a niche in providing quality education, has announced expansion plans both in India and abroad. Speaking to The Hindu on Monday, Pro-Chancellor of the university H.S. Ballal said that the university would start an engineering college and a management college at Jaipur in Rajasthan. The Government of Rajasthan had allotted 106 acres land on the Jaipur-Bikaner Road. The process of getting the land was on, he said. The courses would begin in September and construction work was expected to take at least two years, he added. Prof. Ballal said that the Government of Gujarat had invited the university to start a medical college at Bhuj. “The government hospital there will support the medical college. We may have to increase the bed strength in the hospital. The Gujarat Government has promised to give us 26 acres of land,” he said. The university launched an engineering college in Dubai in March. This engineering college would have five disciplines. Registration of students for the college had started. “The courses there will start in September 2008,” he said.
