CHANDIGARH: Badshahpur in Gurgaon district will be a new Vidhan Sabha constituency in keeping with new delimitation orders. As such there will be four Vidhan Sabha constituencies instead of three (Sohna, Gurgaon and Pataudi) in the district, Chief Electoral Officer Sajjan Singh announced on Monday. Presiding over a meeting in Gurgaon to review the task of preparing photo identity cards, photo voter lists and ensuring effective compliance of the new delimitation orders, Mr. Sajjan Singh disclosed that 85.62 per cent of the voters of the Gurgaon Vidhan Sabha constituency had been provided with photo identity cards and photos of 79.47 per cent of the voters had been printed on the voters’ lists by January 25, 2008. Similarly, the number of voters having photo identity cards had gone up to 93.40 per cent in the Sohna Vidhan Sabha constituency and 94.65 per cent in the Pataudi constituency. He also disclosed that by-elections in Haryana before the general Assembly polls would be held as per old Vidhan Sabha constituencies, as a member of any Legislative Assembly is elected for five years as per the Constitution and if a seat falls vacant for any reason, the new member is elected only for the rest of the term of the Assembly.
