Staff Reporter
TRUE DEVOTION: Devotees pulling the car of Sri Muthumariamman temple at Narthamalai near Pudukottai on Monday.
PUDUKOTTAI: A large number of devotees pulled the temple car of Sri Muthumariamman temple at Narthamalai near here on the occasion the car festival on Monday. The procession idol of Sri Muthumariamman was brought to the car in the afternoon where religious rituals were performed. At 3 p.m., devotees, amidst religious fervour, pulled the temple car.
New arrangements made at the ‘praharam’ around the presiding deity eased regulating the crowd. Clearing of encroachments in the periphery of the temple; demolishing a portion of the outer walls at two places, facilitating more space for entry and exit of the devotees; setting up of additional barricades for streamlining the queues were some of the special features of the arrangements.
Collector D. Uthirakkumaran and Superintendent of Police P. Moorthi were among those who visited the temple.
Executive Officer B. Kadarkarai said that the demolition of a portion of the walls ensured fast movement of devotees at the sanctum sanctorum. Till last year, the narrow entrance and exit points here often caused great inconvenience to the devotees.
