Six persons commit suicide in three months

It has caused panic among hoteliers

CUTTACK: Suicides in Cuttack hotels are now becoming a regular phenomenon putting the city police in a fix. A 25-year-old youth was found dead in a hotel room here on Friday morning.

The youth, believed to be a native of Angul, reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison. With this, the number of suicides in Cuttack hotels during the last three months has gone up to six, causing panic among the hotel owners.

The youth, named Trinath Sahu, checked into a hotel in the city bus terminus area of Badambadi on Thursday night. When his room was not opened till 10 a.m. the next morning, the hotel staff informed the police who in turn broke open the door to find the occupant lying dead on the floor.

“We have retrieved a can of pesticide and an empty liquor bottle from his room. Although, we have not found any suicidal note from his possession, yet the preliminary investigations suggest that the youth has committed suicide,” said the investigating police officer.

The Purighat police registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating.

Similarly, another youth from Sambalpur also committed suicide in the same hotel about two months ago. Last month, a government employee committed suicide in a hotel of the same locality. Police sources said that during the last three months suicide cases were also reported from three other hotels of the city where persons from outside the city booked the rooms and took the extreme step.

As many as six persons take the extreme step during the last three months
