Relocate post office

The post office at Anna Nagar(Navalpattu) PIN 620026 is located on the first floor of a residential house. The aged and women find it difficult to climb up the steep staircase to reach the post office.

Since the Anna Nagar Housing Colony has mostly retired persons of the OFT and BHEL, I request the authorities concerned to shift the post office to the ground floor.

D. V. Ayyer,

Improper receipts

The acknowledgement for the payment of electricity charges is given to the consumers in the form of electronic printed sheets. The printed matters such as number of units, charges paid are not mentioned in their respective columns and people find it difficult to read it precisely. Sometimes the receipts were torn off from the printer without uniformity. The authorities concerned should take steps to avoid such errors.

Shift library to spacious premises

The library at Somarasampettai is functioning in the second floor near the water tank on the back side of the Periyar statue. The library has space only to accommodate four persons and others have to sit on the floor. I request the authorities concerned to shift the library to a spacious place at the earliest.

Stop dumping garbage

The primary school opposite the Makkal Mandram, Thillai Nagar has been shifted to a different location. The site, which remains unused, is being used by commercial outlets to dump garbage. This poses the threat of health hazards to residents of the area. The garbage should be cleared regularly or dumping should be prevented.

M. Gopalakrishnan,

Thillai Nagar.

Round off bus fares

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), Tiruchi, recently introduced vestibule and low-decked buses on its city routes. It has definitely served the purpose of accommodating more passengers with better comfort. The fare in these buses are structured with a minimum of Rs.2.50 and in multiples of Re.1 thereafter, like Rs.3.50, Rs.4.50, etc.

As the fares are in fraction of 0.50 paise, conductors find it difficult to refund 0.50 paise. During peak hours, a few irate passengers pick up argument with the conductors. The Corporation may restructure the fares by rounding off the fares to Rs.3, Rs.4 and Rs.5. Or 0.50 paise coupons may be provided to conductors to be issued when they do not have the requisite coins. These coupons can be reused by passengers during some other trip.

Better policing needed

The crowded places in Srirangam need better policing. The higher authorities should ensure that police presence is seen and felt especially in areas near Rajagopuram and artery roads.

Unclear name boards

The name boards indicating the destination are not clear in city buses running in Tiruchi. People are unable to read the places, particularly during the night. The lights are dim and letters are not visible properly. It should be written in bold letters and with bright light. Will the authorities do the needful?

Replace telephone instrument

The telephone meant for the India Telephone Card (ITC) in Tiruchi BSNL Customer Service Centre was found missing two months back. A few days later, an old telephone with the receiver cable connecting loosely was replaced. In this instrument the speech gets disrupted, and when this difficulty was conveyed to the staff repeatedly, they said the only word “adjust,” which is not possible all the time. While the BSNL is particular in increasing the count of STD/local booths, why not they install a modern wall or table mount phone in their booth?

Will the Divisional General Manager look into the matter and do the needful at the earliest?

C. Ramalingam,

Woraiyur.

Number of cylinders in ration cards

The State Government has issued a notification recently that all ration card holders who are using two cylinders, should register the same with their gas agencies concerned. At the back of the ration card itself, the number of cylinders used by a family is clearly mentioned, what is the need to register the same with the gas agency. And in some cases, it has been verified by the civil supply officials and clearly marked in the front pages too. It is really confusing, why the government insisting on it, without verifying the information mentioned therein in the ration cards?

G. Srikanth,

T.V.Koil.

Make October 2 a working day

Retaining the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi as a national holiday in the pay panel report is contrary to his noble ideals, which advocate hard work. October 2 should rather be made a working day and working hours could be increased by an hour on this day. Politicians and various leaders could offer floral tributes to VVIPs statues before 7 a.m. without causing disturbance to the flow of traffic on busy roads.

P. David,

Refund of tatkal train tickets

The ‘tatkal’ reservation system existing in Railway is in no way beneficial to the public. Just five days before the journey date, the reservation is done. An amount of Rs.150 per ticket is charged for ‘tatkal’ reservation. In case due to unavoidable circumstances, if the passenger is forced to cancel the ticket, the railway is refunding only 25 per cent of the actual fare, if it is a confirmed one. All other amount such as reservation charges, ‘tatkal charges’ are not paid. Normally, no passenger will simply reserve ticket and cancel unnecessarily. At the time of cancellation, the ticket fare has to be refunded for ‘tatkal’ ticket too, as done for normal reserved tickets, after deducting the cancellation charges.

OFT Estate.
