Three-day international adventure tourism show to begin from April 11

Over 40 organisations will participate in the event

Adventure tourism may generate revenue up to $ 20 billion by 2010

Taking the plunge: There is little awareness about the potential of adventure tourism activities in south India.

BANGALORE: Just as the passion for adventure tourism among the youth is on a rise, an international adventure tourism show has been organised in Bangalore to showcase the adventure gears, packages and activities available for adventure buffs. Traits-2008, a three-day International Adventure Tourism show, will be held at Palace Grounds from April 11.

Organised by Amazing Global Journeys, the three-day event is being supported by the Karnataka Tourism Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) and the Karnataka Mountaineering Association. The event will witness the participation of over 40 organisations including adventure associations, institutes, clubs, travel agencies, tour operators, publications and manufacturers of related products such as hiking equipment.

Krishna V. Prasad, director, Amazing Global Journeys, told The Hindu: “While adventure tourism has gained popularity in north India, there is little awareness about the potential of adventure tourism activities in the south. By hosting this exhibition, we are looking at increasing awareness about adventure tourism among prospective travellers, such as IT professionals, students and others.”

He said that manufacturers of adventure gears, including tents, jerkins, gloves, knives and others, would be taking part and that this international event would be an annual event from next year. It will invite a tremendous business opportunity and will create awareness among the people on adventure tourism in the region, he added.

A press release said that the industry estimates that adventure tourism in India will emerge as one of the biggest foreign exchange earners, which can generate up to $ 20 billion by 2010.

Adventure carnival

Apart from showcasing the products and equipment, an Adventure Carnival has been organised concurrently with the tourism show where one can experience thrills of various adventure sports. Bungee jumping, parasailing, Burma bridge, rappelling, camel safari, ballooning, and zorbing are some of the events planned during Traits 2008.
