Foreigner molested in city

Staff Reporter`

The incident happened at a serviced apartment on Millers Road

BANGALORE: A 28-year-old nurse from the Philippines was allegedly molested by the employee of a serviced apartment on Millers Road where she was staying. The nurse has filed a complaint against the man who worked as a receptionist there.

According to the police, the nurse, who works in the U.K., had come to the city as a tourist on April 3. She checked into a hotel and then, on the advice of a friend, moved into the serviced apartment on Millers Road, which was near the hotel. On April 4, Srikant, who worked as a receptionist in the service apartment, came to her room at night to discuss some telephone calls that were made to her. He then allegedly tried to molest her, only to be slapped and ejected by the nurse who then called her friend in New Delhi. He in turn called Yaseen Baba, the editor of an Urdu daily newspaper, and sought his help.

Mr. Baba said he went to the serviced apartment on Saturday night. “I found that the management had dismissed Srikant from service. They had also threatened her against filing any complaint,” he told The Hindu.

Mr. Baba accompanied her to the office of the Police Commissioner and filed the compliant, which was forwarded to the jurisdictional High Grounds police station for investigation. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) B.N.S. Reddy said the nurse was reluctant to file a complaint.

The High Grounds police registered a case against Srikant under Section 354 of Indian Penal Code (assaulting or criminal force to women with intent to outrage their modesty). He was arrested in the evening. The nurse was not been subjected to medical examination as no force was used against her, the police said. She was not ready to speak with reporters.
