Youth falls from motorcycle, dies

TAMBARAM: A 25-year-old youth died on the spot when he fell from his motorcycle on Grand Southern Trunk Road at Irumbuliyur near Tambaram on Sunday night.

Siva Subramaniam, a carpenter, was a resident of Perungalathur. He had come to Tambaram with a friend, Somu, a motorcycle mechanic and a resident of Perungudi. The two met in Tambaram and were heading towards Perungalathur when Siva Subramaniam, lost control of the motorcycle and collided against a barricade. He died on the spot. Somu is undergoing treatment, traffic police said.

Man dies

An 55-year-old unidentified man died when he came under the gates of the level crossing near the Tambaram Sanatorium railway station early on Monday . The man, personnel of Government Railway Police said, was a beggar. He had slept near the gates. When it was opened at 5.30 a.m., the victim came under the “counter weight” (the rings of steels fixed at the end of the gates), weighing about 100 kilograms.
