RAMANATHAPURAM: The Sri Lankan navy arrested five fishermen of Thankatchimadam for foraying into its territorial waters.
Official sources here said G. Franklin, G. Anthony Royappan, K. Nagaraj, K. Kumar and K. Balusamy were fishing near Talaimannar on Friday. They were produced in court and sent to Jaffna jail.
U. Arulanandam, Tamil Nadu’s representative of the Alliance for the Release of Innocent Fishermen (ARIF), has appealed to Central and State governments to secure their release. He also appealed to the Sri Lankan government to release them on humanitarian grounds. — Staff Reporter
