S. Railway in last eight

CHENNAI: Southern Railway, the freshly-promoted senior division side, edged past Tamil Nadu Special Police 2-1, thanks to Muniyandi’s late goal, in a pre-quarterfinal match in the Deccan Chronicle football tournament here on Monday.

Railway took the lead through Lodwin who tapped in a Bharath cross in the sixth minute. But TSP found the equaliser 20 minutes later through a Kumaran volley.

The match seemed to be heading for a draw when Muniyandi’s effort in the 77th minute clinched the issue.Bharath was adjudged the ‘Man of the Match’.

Earlier, Soccer FC defeated SBI 2-1 to earn a quarterfinal berth. David had put Soccer ahead in the 36th minute and five minutes into the second session, Kumaran consolidated the position.

The hardworking K.P. Anish’s right-footed goal came as a consolation for SBI. Anish earned the ‘Man of the Match’ award.

Sailing camp

The Tamil Nadu Sailing Association (TNSA) will conduct a one-week sailing camp for newcomers from April 14 to 20.

A fleet of Optimist Class boats will be utilised for coaching to be conducted by experienced sailors of TNSA. The camp is open to boys and girls above-7 years of age. The fee is Rs. 2,950 and includes entry passes into the port for all days for the children and parent (car and driver passes extra at Rs. 500).

Classes will be held between 6.30 and 11 a.m. from April 14 to 16 and from April 17 to 20 the timings are 2 to 6 p.m.

N. Premkumar defeated K. Balakrishnan 15-19, 25-24, 23-11 in the open singles event of the IDBI Recreation Club and Cultural Association annual carrom tournament being held here.

MCC ‘B’ defeats Egmore Club ‘A’

MCC ‘B’ defeated Egmore Club ‘A’ 2-1 in a Zone ‘A’ match of the Sanmar-TNTA tennis league here recently.
