NEW DELHI: Sachin Tendulkar and Milkha Singh would be among the Olympic torch relay participants during the Delhi leg on April 17, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced on Monday. In all, 35 sportspersons had agreed to participate in the relay, the IOA said. The other prominent personalities were athletes Anju George and Shiny Wilson and former All-England champion Pullela Gopi Chand, according to the IOA announcement. Olympian athletes Gurbachan Singh Randhawa and P. T. Usha have also been invited by the IOA to participate in the relay. The IOA President, Suresh Kalmadi, said that Tendulkar had called him on Monday to confirm his participation in the torch relay. Mr Kalmadi said many sportspersons wanted to take part in the torch relay and requests were pouring in. “Though we want to accommodate everyone, it is not going to be possible,” he said. He said that the relay route and other details were being worked out and would be released soon. — Special Correspondent
