Ombudsman’s directive to Corporation

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Ombudsman for local self-government bodies M.R. Hariharan Nair has directed the Kochi Corporation to file a report on the alleged illegal constructions and piling being carried out on Perandoor Canal and its banks.

The Ombudsman asked the Corporation authorities to file the report by April 11. Complaints within the Corporation and municipal limits were heard at a sitting at the district panchayat hall on Monday.

He also asked the Kerala State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) to report on a complaint that an unlicensed industrial unit on the premises of a food processing unit near the Vaduthala market was causing pollution.

Directive

The KSPCB was also asked to take necessary steps within a month on a complaint that a 600-tonne capacity ammonia tank of a private company at Eda Kochi was polluting Pashni Canal in the region.
