African man held on charges of smuggling

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: An African national and his woman accomplice have been arrested by the Customs on charges of smuggling out hashish. The agency has reportedly seized 8.5 kg of hashish from the accused. It is learnt that during a screening of the parcels at the Foreign Post Office recently the Customs officials noticed that the handwriting on some parcels destined for different countries was similar.

This raised suspicion about the content of the parcels, following which they took up the investigations and zeroed in on an African national. The suspect was arrested on Monday along with his Indian accomplice, a woman, after the Customs officials allegedly seized a consignment of hashish from them. During interrogation, the accused purportedly disclosed that he had despatched 60 parcels to various countries . Investigations have suggested that the two were part of international drug trafficking syndicate.
