Free bypass surgery for the poor

Joint effort: Film actor Mammootty and NIMS Medicity Managing Director M. Faizal Khan exchanging the MoU of the ‘Heart-to-Heart’ scheme

Thiruvananthapuram: The Noorul Islam Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Foundation (NIMS) hospital at Neyyatinkara near here has joined hands with the Mammootty Fans and Welfare Association to launch a programme offering free bypass surgeries for patients from the economically backward sections of society.

Brand ambassador

Actor Mammootty will be the brand ambassador for the initiative named ‘Heart-to-Heart.’ The first phase of the programme will cover 100 patients requiring immediate surgery.

3 surgeries a month

NIMS managing director Faizal Khan said in a press note here on Tuesday that at least three such surgeries would be carried out every month. All expenses including hospitalisation and food would be free. Patients would be selected from applications received by the Mammootty Fans Welfare Association.
