SALEM: A three-day, special vehicle tax collection camp began on the premises of Hindu Modern Hotel on Tuesday. Owners of non-transport vehicles such as motorcycles, cars and jeeps could pay annual road tax and green tax at the camp, organised by the Lions Club of Salem Mid Town, Regional Transport Office (RTO) and Indian Bank. Mayor J. Rekha Priyadarshini inaugurated the camp. The vehicle owners should bring in the insurance certificate, registration certificate and other documents to pay the taxes. The owners of vehicles, which were registered 15 years ago, should pay green tax at the rate of Rs. 500 for two wheeler and Rs. 1,000 for four wheelers, transport officials said. The camp would function till April 10. The transport department has opened special counters in the Office of the Deputy Transport Commissioner in Subramaniya Nagar, Regional Transport offices in Salem East, Salem West and Sankagiri.
